Sweet Potato Bake Recipe by Paula Deen

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked and mashed sweet potatoes
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted, plus 3 tablespoons melted for topping
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream, half and half, or whole milk
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped (or walnuts)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

Preparation

Preheat oven to 325°. Mix sweet potatoes, sugar, spices, 1/3 cup butter, eggs and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Add cream, mix well. Pour into greased casserole dish (1 1/2 quarts). Add topping. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

 

For topping: Mix together 3 tablespoons butter, brown sugar, flour and nuts with fork; sprinkle over top of casserole.

I make this recipe all the time for the holidays. For the topping you use the 3 Tablespoons butter (I don't melt just use softened, 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of pecans and 1/3 cup flour. Cut together with pastry blender or fork and sprinkle on top before you bake. Yum, makes the recipe!!

Ok so I am not a

Ok so I am not a wonderful cook, but can read directions. I don't understand which ingredients are for the topping and which go in the dish. I made this then put the topping on using the amounts in the ingredients. Should the topping have the ingredients again? I ended up mixing all of the ingredients in the casserole except the butter. The results are ok, bland needed salt or maybe butter? HELP!!! Would love to make this amazing.

I make this every Thanksgiving it's so awesome! I've given to friends who are sworn off sweet potato anything and they love it. I don't add, delete, or change NUTHIN' in this recipe - it's golden!!

Made this 2 years ago for Thanksgiving and everyone loved it, finally found the recipe again and the family wants me to triple it, best sweet potatoes I have ever had...Love this.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Made this as directed for Thanksgiving.....did NOT change anything.....other than doubled the recipe (filling and topping) and baked in a 11x16 baking pan. Do forget the PECANS!
First time making and was a HUGE HIT!!! Everyone LOVED it!!!!! Great hot or cold and next time going to make as a pie. Do yourself a favor and MAKE THIS you will LOVE IT!!
Also Patty's Pumpkin Bars with Cream Cheese frosting is another recipe from Paula that you will have to try. I have been making for years and always a dessert EVERYONE LOVES!

This is far and away the best sweet potato bake I have ever had! Made it for Thanksgiving and everyone LOVED it! Doubled the recipe, will have to Triple it next time!
